Most natural fabrics, such as cotton and denim, are safe for use with iron-on numbers under high heat. Use a lower heat setting for polyester jerseys, vinyls, and other synthetic blends, which can burn or melt easily.

Can I wash jerseys with iron-on numbers?

Yes. Spot-cleaning or hand-washing is ideal and the best way to extend the life of your iron-on numbers. However, you should wait at least 24 hours after ironing the numbers onto your item to ensure the glue has had enough time to cure. If you prefer using your washing machine, turn the item inside out, place it in a mesh bag or pillowcase, then wash on a gentle cycle with cold water.

Avoid using a dryer, which can cause the adhesive to deteriorate prematurely. Instead, hang the item after washing or lay it flat to dry.

What size numbers should I use for sports jerseys?

In most cases, 2-inch numbers work best for youth jerseys and smaller designs, while 3-inch numbers are standard for adult varsity and team uniforms.

Can I sew iron-on numbers for extra durability?

Yes, sewing iron-on numbers is a great way to add extra durability to your project. It’s especially recommended for sports jerseys and other items that endure heavy movement and frequent washing. To sew correctly, first iron the numbers on first, then secure by adding stitches around the border using thread in a matching color.

Do iron-on numbers work on mesh jerseys?

Iron-on numbers will work on mesh jerseys, but may require a few extra steps to attach successfully. For mesh, place parchment paper underneath the fabric, which will help transfer heat evenly across your work surface. Then, place the number on top of the fabric and apply your iron, using firm pressure with lower heat. Use the tip of your iron for extra precision on corners and other tight areas. Note that it may take longer than the standard 15–20 seconds of pressure for the number to adhere to the mesh correctly.

Hotfix iron-on letters, made with high-quality crystal rhinestones.
